I can't get away from the idea that "As a man thinketh in his heart so is he." It just keeps swirling around in my mind, so surely it is a subject that I should keep concentrating on. It is undoubtedly terribly important to have the proper thoughts.
What do you think about the first thing in the morning? Let me tell you what I think about as they bring the mechanical lift in to hoist me out of bed (the same hydraulic lift that they use to put me in bed at night). It takes three women in addition to the lift to get the job done. But I thank God that I am alive to see another day. Whether the day is dark and gloomy or bright with sunny skies. It is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it. I am grateful for my wife who partially dresses me in bed, before I getup and then undresses me after I am in bed at night. After I am up she gets my toothbrush, dentures and shaver ready at the table, where I can prepare for the day ahead. While I'm shaving she reads our morning devotions and either an article from Quaker Life (our denominational journal) or a chapter from a book every day. Why shouldn't I rejoice and be glad. I'm still here and I can think good thoughts and write them for others to read.
The alternative path I could take would be to do nothing but gripe about my situation and make myself useless and unhappy and make everyone that I associate with likewise distraught.
Do you see what I'm getting at? I hope so for it is up to each and every one of us to use our minds to reflect on the positive side of every situation. To do otherwise gets us nowhere anyway. If you concentrate on the negative absolutely nothing positive can come of it.
Please, for your own sake and everyone you come in contact with determine to ponder good thoughts. Anyone can make that change at anytime. We all have the ability within us do whatsoever we desire. Just take a few moments out of your hectic schedule to con- centrate on all of the good things in life that are yours and yours alone. No one can take them from you unless you allow that to happen. You are in control of what you allow your mind to dwell on. NEVER FORGET THAT!
The apostle Paul had the right idea when he wrote to the Philip- pians, "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, what- ever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things....And the God of Peace will be with you." (Philippians 4:8,9)
