I was recently asked to fill out an interesting questionaire for a young man who is preparing for the priesthood. Among the quest- ions was "What is your concept of God? and "Has is it changed over the years?"
I'll say that the answer to the last question is easy. It most certainly has changed through the years. I would hope that would be true of everyone, but I know there are many people who still hold to their childhood ideas of who and what God is. And what a shame that is.
Not to grow sufficiently in the realm of the spirit is sad. We all grow physically but there are those among us who never grow beyond thinking of God as that Big Man in the sky
The answer to the first is just as easy. I believe that God is Spirit just as I am spirit. It is in spirit that I relate to Him. His Spirit feeds and enriches my spirit. No one can see my spirit, as I cannot see God's Spirit. But I am aware of his Spirit. He has guided me through these many years that I have done my best to follow Him. I trust His guidance. He is like the wind. No one can see the wind, but we can all feel it and see it's results when it is strong enough to cause a tornado or hurricane. We don't question the presence of the wind. Why should we question the existence of God.
He did His very best to make Himself known to us when He came among us in human form in the person of Jesus. He did all he could to explain what we were supposed to do and how we are to relate to him and our fellowmen. He even made it very clear that our neigh- bors are all just people and not only those who we approve of or agree with. What more could he do?
Well, he did something more. He died on that old rugged cross for all men, that whosoever would believe on him should be redeemed and have everlasting life.
The question of the day is, "Have you accepted Him?"
